This week, we are thrilled to introduce our Miva Star of the Week, Favor Agi, a multifaceted individual who is making waves both in her academic pursuits and her passion for music. Let’s dive into her story.
Favor Agi is a dedicated student of Public Policy and Administration at Miva Open University. When asked why she chose this field, she said, “I chose to study Public Policy and Administration at Miva Open University because I’ve always wanted to have a voice in government. I love public speaking and as an aspiring policymaker, I want to make significant changes in my country, society, and the world at large. I believe we need to make more intentional decisions that’ll positively impact the lives of everyone in our everyday lives.”
Beyond her academic pursuits, Favor is incredibly passionate about music. She told us, “I’m extremely passionate about my music. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a singer and a songwriter. I believe that music is one way I can always express myself without any fear or barrier. I’ve written a few songs of my own and I’m working on getting one released soon.” Her biggest inspiration is her mum, who is also a singer and songwriter. “Right from when I was a toddler, she noticed that I always loved to sing and she really coached me and taught me how to write songs.”
When it comes to studying, Favor prefers to study alone but also gets support from her study group. “I just feel like I understand and comprehend better that way,” she said. Her favorite courses reflect her interests in governance and economics. “Generally, my favorite course would be Elements of Government because it provides a framework which we can live our lives, pursue our goals, and work together for a better future. And for this semester, it’ll be Economics because at its core, it’s about understanding how people make choices and how these choices impact our society.”
Favor has some valuable advice for anyone considering enrolling at Miva Open University. “As convenient and flexible as Miva makes the schooling system, you have to take your self-study seriously and don’t miss your pop quizzes as much as possible, always make sure every assignment is done and submitted before the deadline to avoid deduction of marks for late submission or for it to be missing in your final results at the end of the semester, they all count trust me. Also, try to participate in live lessons, it helps a lot. Maximize office hours, the lecturers are always ready and available to answer any questions that you may have. Make friends too both in your department and out of it, you’d need them a lot. Trust me that helped me even to my exam period, we studied together and it was nice. Also, don’t forget that your success advisor who’ll eventually be assigned to you is also there for you to reach out to should you have any questions or concerns about anything concerning the school and its activities. It’s good that you stay active in the community group as well. And the in-person hangouts and masterclasses are really cool too. You’d make friends there as well and learn a whole lot and meet important men and women in society.”
Looking to the future, Favor aims to achieve a first-class degree and has ambitious plans as an aspiring policymaker. She is committed to addressing key issues such as insecurity and the need for better farming implements to help improve the agricultural sector. “As an aspiring policy maker, the first thing I’d look into concerning the agricultural sector and the food scarcity scourging the nation will be the insecurity situation that we have. I’ll properly address it.”
