Hi, David. Can we meet you?
My name is David Ekeada. I’m studying Computer Science at Miva Open University, and I live in Abuja.
Great! How has your experience been studying at Miva?
It has been good. Miva has really helped me improve my studies. I used to get distracted while studying, but now I’m more focused, and I can see the impact in real life.
Before we go further, can you tell us your favourite musician and song at the moment?
Davido. He’s my favourite. My name is David too, so I just decided to like his music. My favourite song right now is Funds.
I see! Abuja champion plus Davido—I get it. Now, what are you most passionate about, and what drives that passion?
I’m really passionate about Miva and learning. Since joining, I’ve become more serious about my studies and even started forming connections with people. Before, I wasn’t very social, but now I engage more with my peers while still staying focused on my academics.
Choosing Computer Science and Miva
Why did you choose to study Computer Science?
I chose Computer Science because I love coding. It allows me to solve problems and create real-world solutions.
And why did you choose Miva Open University?
I chose Miva because I like the flexibility—it allows me to study without distractions. It’s just me and my laptop, which helps me stay focused.
What’s your favourite course in Computer Science?
My favourite course is Computer Programming I. It teaches me how to code, and the lecturers explain concepts well. Coding is a fundamental part of Computer Science, and this course gives me the knowledge I need.
Would you say that studying at Miva provides practical learning, especially in coding?
Yes, coding is very practical. To be good at it, you need hands-on experience. We also use different symbols and programming tools to apply what we learn.
How do you think studying Computer Science will help you make a positive impact?
Studying Computer Science has the potential to change my life. It also allows me to help others, but first, I need to gain expertise in the field.
Social Life at Miva
Have you been able to make friends at Miva? If so, you can give them a shoutout.
I’m not a very social person, but I have made a few friends. Shoutout to Esther, Lucy, and Grace—I appreciate studying with you all at Miva!
Do you prefer studying alone or with a group?
I prefer studying alone because I get easily distracted in groups. However, my study group has been helpful, especially when I need clarification on certain topics.
Do you work alongside your studies?
No, I don’t work. I focus entirely on my studies but do a few tasks at home.

Empowerment.
