Call for Book Chapters: Distributed Computing

Proposal Submission Deadline: June 25, 2024
Full Chapters Due: July 5, 2024

Introduction

We are pleased to invite submissions for a forthcoming book titled Distributed Computing. This book aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of the principles, mechanisms, and applications of distributed computing. Covering both theoretical foundations and practical implementations, this book will serve as an essential resource for understanding the complexities and innovations in distributed systems.

Objective

The book aims to offer in-depth insights into various aspects of distributed computing, including communication mechanisms, synchronization, global state management, fault tolerance, security, and real-world applications. It will serve as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and students looking to deepen their understanding of distributed systems and their applications.

Target Audience

This book will serve as course material for teaching Distributed Computing to undergraduate and graduate students and will be of interest to:

  • Researchers and scholars in computer science and information technology.
  • Software developers and engineers working with distributed systems.
  • IT managers and professionals involved in designing and managing distributed systems.
  • Students pursuing advanced degrees in related fields.
  • Policy makers and regulators involved in technology governance.

Recommended Topics

We welcome chapters that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

Chapter 1: Communication Mechanisms and Protocols

  • Fundamental concepts of communication in distributed systems
  • Key communication protocols and their efficiency and reliability

Chapter 2: RPC (Remote Procedure Call) and RMI (Remote Method Invocation)

  • Mechanisms use cases, and performance considerations of RPC and RMI

Chapter 3: Stream-Oriented Communication and Synchronization

  • Techniques for stream-oriented communication and synchronization challenges in distributed systems

Chapter 4: Global State and Election

  • Managing global state in distributed systems and election algorithms

Chapter 5: Distributed Mutual Exclusion and Transactions

  • Mechanisms for achieving mutual exclusion and managing distributed transactions

Chapter 6: Naming and Localization
