It’s another week at Miva Open University, which means it’s another week to celebrate our students’ journeys. This week, we are spotlighting Akpaka Collins Chidindu from the Computer Science department. Collins is not only a dedicated student but also a product manager, balancing both his professional career and academic life.
With a first degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Collins’ passion for technology led him to seek deeper knowledge in the field. He chose to study Computer Science at Miva because it offers the flexibility to balance work and education.
“I wanted to have a deep level understanding of tech, from algorithms to software architecture,” Collins explained. “Miva Open University was the best fit for me as I could study flexibly while working remotely.”
Managing deadlines from both work and school can be tricky, but Collins has developed a strategy to stay on top of things. “I often keep reminders on my phone for very important deadlines, and I usually stick to it, especially mid-semester assessments,” he shared. This discipline has helped him balance his responsibilities effectively.
As a product manager, Collins takes on the demanding role of leading projects and bringing them to life. “It’s bittersweet,” he said. “If I succeed, the team is a success; if we fail, I’m a bad product manager. But I put in the work, and when failure comes, I learn from it quickly and move on.”
Outside of his studies and work, Collins is part of a study group at Miva, where he has built meaningful connections with fellow students. Balancing work and study is a tough task, but Collins takes it one week at a time, adjusting his focus based on the demands of each.
When asked about his hobbies, Collins shared that he enjoys travelling, cooking, shopping, and reading—activities that help him unwind from his busy schedule.
Collins believes Miva Open University is an amazing place to be. He commends how Miva continually improves the student experience, iterating and refining its offerings to ensure students and prospective learners receive great value.
