Miva Open University is proud to announce that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of four new bachelor’s degree programmes namely B.Sc. Criminology & Security Studies, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship, B.Sc. Information Technology, and B.Sc. Mass Communication & Media Studies. This milestone follows a successful inspection visit by the NUC team on March 8, 2024, which verified the quality of our human resources and physical facilities.
The approval underscores Miva Open University’s commitment to providing innovative and high-quality education, in line with our vision of being a leading digital and innovative university. The newly approved programmes are domiciled in the School of Management & Social Sciences, the School of Computing, and the School of Communication & Media Studies respectively.
In his response to the approval, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Tayo Arulogun thanked the NUC for their thorough evaluation and positive feedback. He reiterated the university’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards and implementing the NUC’s recommendations to improve the learning experience.
“We are overjoyed with the NUC’s approval, which validates our efforts to provide a world-class university education that incorporates technology and innovative teaching methods. This approval allows us to expand our academic offerings and meet the changing needs of our students and the industry,” said Professor Arulogun.
During their visit, the NUC team inspected a range of facilities, including hardware and software laboratories; three mass communication studios; the learner’s support services unit; IT facilities; E-library/E-resources; the physical library; the guidance & counseling unit; and lecture halls equipped with overhead projectors. The team further assessed the offices of faculty members and key university functionaries, including the Director of Academic Planning, the Deans of the respective schools and the Heads of the new programmes.
Tukur Ladan, the NUC Team Lead, praised Miva Open University’s warm welcome and the university’s unique teaching and blended learning model, recommending it as a model for other institutions. He also praised the university’s rapid development and encouraged the continued pace of progress.
