On October 9, 2024, Kris joined us for the inaugural “Miva Star of the Week” interview session, where he opened up about his Miva journey, his passion for criminology, and what drives him.
When asked why he chose to study Criminology and Security Studies at Miva Open University, Kris explained, “My passion for studying criminology and security has always been about understanding the human mind—how it works, what drives it to commit crime, and how we can handle security challenges. I want to ensure that everyone around me is safe and secure.” He added, “I’m also excited about exploring the world of tech and what it looks like in security.”
Kris’s enthusiasm for his course is inspiring. He’s committed to learning about the intricacies of crime and security, balancing this with a love for technology—a combination that sets him apart as a forward-thinking student.
For Kris, transitioning to online learning was seamless. “Studying online hasn’t been much of a challenge because I’m already familiar with it. I’ve done online courses on YouTube and Coursera before coming to Miva,” he shared confidently. His experience emphasizes how Miva’s flexible online structure caters to its dynamic community of students.
Outside his academic life, Kris is a dog breeder. “Business is not easy, but balancing it with studies has been smooth for me. I’m 70% home, looking after my dogs and studying,” he shared. His ability to combine his passion for animals with his academic pursuits is a testament to Miva’s flexibility, allowing students to manage other commitments without compromising their studies.
While criminology is his academic passion, Kris’s love for dogs stands out. “From a tender age, I’ve always loved pets, especially dogs—breeding, training, and caregiving. They bring immense joy, companionship, and unconditional love.” His passion for animals is complemented by his love for music, making Kris a well-rounded individual with diverse interests.
Kris has already formed meaningful connections within the Miva community. “I’ve made a few friends from my department, including Angel, Offor, Kemi, Michael, and Kiki,” he said. He also shared his experience visiting the Miva Community Centres, describing them as “an amazing and wonderful place to study and connect with like minds.”
