Praise Igbokwe: Miva Star of the Week

What happens when you combine an aspiring healthcare professional with a content creator who runs a podcast while also finding time to sing, study, and inspire others? You get Praise Igbokwe.

Praise, a proud member of Miva Open University’s September 2024 cohort, exemplifies how learning does not have to sacrifice creativity, community, or personal development. In this interview, she discusses why she chose Miva and how she balances her studies and work.

Studying on Her Terms

Praise didn’t pick just any university. She chose a university that fits into her life, not the other way around. Miva’s flexible learning structure means that Praise can stay on top of her classes while still showing up for work, side gigs, and moments of rest.

“I chose to study at Miva Open University because of the flexibility and the fact that I can do school and other things together.”

It’s a balance that many students can only wish for, but Praise is making it work and thriving in the process.

A Calling Into Public Health

Healthcare wasn’t just another option on her list. Praise’s decision to study public health came from a deep desire to be part of the healthcare system that contributes to people’s well-being every day.

“I chose Public Health at Miva Open University because of the flexibility and, personally, the healthcare. I just wanted to get into the healthcare system.”

At Miva, that passion is being refined with practical courses like PHS 201, which opens up the public health landscape, and Anatomy 201, which Praise describes as: an endless discovery of the human body.

Where Curiosity Meets Creativity

For Praise, her journey into content creation started with a simple question: “How do people make this?” From watching documentaries as a child to producing content for clients today, Praise has followed her curiosity into a career she genuinely enjoys.

Whether she’s filming, editing, or podcasting, she treats her creative work with the same energy and structure as her academic work—making timetables, planning, and finding quiet moments to get things done.

“I have a timetable where I have time for studying, time for doing other personal things, editing videos…”

It isn’t always easy, but she has developed a rhythm that works for her.

Study Alone, Win Together

Although she prefers studying solo, Praise knows the power of collaboration, especially during exams. That’s when she connects with a group of classmates who help each other revise, prepare, and stay on track.

“We study together, and yeah, it just makes the work seamless.”

Praise is also growing her Miva family with friends like Kamsi, Paul, Precious, Mike, Ezekiel, Deborah, Cassie, and Pius.

A Voice that Reaches Others

Beyond school and content, Praise is all about connection. Whether she’s mentoring younger people or creating new podcast episodes, she’s motivated by a desire to connect.

“My hobby is reaching out to people. It might not be a hobby, but I enjoy doing it. I love singing. I love talking. I actually own a podcast, so I love talking in my spare time—talking to myself, even if I seem crazy.”

From Praise to Future Miva Students

If you are considering studying at Miva, Praise has one piece of advice: it is never too late to enrol. Especially if you’re looking for a university that sees, hears, and allows you to progress at your own pace.

“If you want flexibility, if you want a stress-free education, and if you want a space where you are being heard, because at Miva Open University, we are actually being heard—your feedback is relevant. So, if you need that kind of space, hurry up and enrol.”

Conclusion

As Miva Star of the Week, Praise is an example of what it means to design your path and walk it with purpose. From public health to podcasting, Praise is proving that students can thrive academically while still embracing their creativity, passions, and connections.

Her journey is a reminder that learning doesn’t have to fit into a box; it can grow with you, stretch around your dreams, and reflect the life you’re building.
