About the Speaker

Emmanuel Ating Onwioduokit is a distinguished Professor of Economics with over 35 years of extensive experience spanning academia, central banking, and public service. He currently holds professorial appointments at the University of Uyo, Nigeria, and Regenesys Business School, South Africa. His academic journey began as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Uyo, progressing to roles such as Senior Economist at the Central Bank of Nigeria and Special Assistant (Economic Affairs) to the Vice President of Nigeria. He later served as Chief Economist at the West African Monetary Institute, where he led macroeconomic surveillance for the West African Monetary Zone.

Professor Onwioduokit boasts an impressive academic portfolio, with over 235 publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference papers, alongside five authoritative textbooks. His research spans a broad spectrum of economic fields, including Public Finance, International Economics, Labour Economics, Transportation Economics, and Monetary Economics.|

In public service, he served as Honourable Commissioner for Economic Development in Akwa Ibom State, where he spearheaded strategic initiatives to foster sustainable growth. His consultancy expertise has been instrumental in crafting economic blueprints for Gombe, Sokoto, and Ebonyi States, as well as the National Policy on the SDGs for Nigeria.

Professor Onwioduokit has also played a vital role in poverty alleviation, contributing to programmes such as the Akwa Ibom CARES initiative. Additionally, he served as Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Post-COVID-19 Economic Reconstruction Committee, helping to develop a comprehensive blueprint for the state’s economic growth beyond oil dependency. His advisory services extend to numerous multilateral and regional institutions, solidifying his reputation as a respected and versatile authority in the field of economics.
